AHS Magnet Human Cadaver Lab Field Trip 2019

AHS Magnet Human Cadaver Lab Field Trip 2019

Thanks to the generosity of our board members, Senior Magnet students at J. B. Alexander High School have an opportunity during their senior year to witness a human cadaver autopsy. The students visit the Bulverde Training Centre in Bulverde, Texas. The visit consists of being trained in CPR, First Aid, tourniquet usage and the highlight of observing the clinicians perform a live autopsy before the students. The students are able to apply the knowledge theories, they have learned in Anatomy and Physiology Class and the other Magnet Specialty courses and in the participation of the human cadaver evaluation. One thing is to learn all the names of the 216 bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and different systems in the body and another is to actually see, smell, touch, and feel the major organs of the human body.

The students observe charred lungs, enlarged heart, fatty liver, and feel plaque built up in neck arteries. This experience has enabled our students to apply book knowledge into practice. It is the “AHA” moment in applying their knowledge that makes this experience one they will remember for the rest of their lives.

One goal at J. B. Alexander High School Magnet for Health and Sciences is to prepare ALL our students to be successful at the next level in their educational careers. Students at J. B. Alexander High School Magnet for Health and Sciences would not be able to garnish this wonderful experience without the generous contributions of our board members.
