About Me

Educational History:

Mr. Joshua Arnold Martinez is in his 11th year of Music Education and currently serves as Director of Bands at John B. Alexander High School in Laredo, Texas where he holds a Master of Music Education degree from Texas A&M University – Kingsville. He completed the terms of this degree by submitting a project entitled “An Annotated Summary of the Grade IV Selections Added to the Texas Prescribed Music List in the Academic School Year 2011-2012.” This project detailed over 20 works by various composers in a simple form for educators to reference for information regarding the overall work in hopes of allowing preparation for the educational process through instruction.

Current Position:

Before his time at John B. Alexander High School, Mr. Martinez aided in the success of United South High School in Laredo, Texas in the capacity of Assistant Band Director where he conducted the Symphonic Winds (Non Varsity) to 7 years of consecutive Sweepstakes Awards while advancing the level of literature from Grade 2 selections to Grade 5 selections by the end of his term with United South High School.

Currently Mr. Martinez is in his 4th year with John B. Alexander High School where he oversees all aspects of The Mighty Bulldog Band including the award winning, U.I.L. State Marching Contest competing Outdoor Performance Ensemble and T.M.E.A. Area Finalist Honors Wind Ensemble. Under Mr. Martinez’s leadership, The John B. Alexander Band program has grown to have 10 award winning ensembles including the Outdoor Performance Ensemble, Concert Winds Ensemble, Symphonic Winds Ensemble, Honors Wind Ensemble, Indoor Performance Ensemble, Percussion Theater, Avante Guard A, Avante Guard B, Alexander Mariachi Monumental del Oro, and Blue-Jazz Winds.

Mr. Martinez is proud to say that throughout his career he has guided musicians exclusively to earn the illustrious U.I.L. Sweepstakes Award, which is a testament to the amazing musicians he has had the privilege to work with.

Mr. Martinez would like to acknowledge and thank the incredible music educators he has the privilege of working alongside daily at John B. Alexander High School – Mr. Ricardo Fuentes, Ms. Diana Gonzalez, Mr. Jacob Matthys, Mr. Abraham Armendariz, and Mr. Raymundo Pena.

Family Information:

In his time away from music education Mr. Martinez enjoys spending time with his family and loves ones whom he credits as serving as the backbone of support of his continued drive towards excellence in all his endeavors.
