The name Chelsea Chavez will forever be associated with Alexander Swimming.
The senior standout was recently named to the Texas High School Coaches Association 6A Super Elite Team for girls' swim and dive during the 2024-25 season. She's the second Alexander athlete this school year to be named to a Super Elite Team by the Texas High School Coaches Association, joining Bulldogs defensive back Hector Benavides for football.
Of the 11 members on the 6A Super Elite Team, Chavez was one of two swimmers not from a school near Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio. She was the only swimmer south of San Antonio to make the All-State list.
Chavez, a Southwestern University commit, had a historic swimming career at Alexander, especially in the 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, and 100-yard freestyle races. All four years of her prep career she qualified for state in two events each year. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, won four straight district and regional titles. As an individual, she was an eight-time District 30-6A champion and 6A Region 8 champion across her races.
Her career doesn't end with the Bulldogs. She will continue swimming at Southwestern University, which is in Georgetown, about four hours from Laredo and just north of Austin. The swim program competes in NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
